Things to put in your self care kit

Thinking about putting together your own self-care kit for a rainy day? Here are a few ideas of things we think you should also consider including.

Journal – Make sure to have a journal or a tiny diary, where you can write down your thoughts. Journaling is like a form of self-therapy. Writing down our problems is like giving ourselves a mental detox. Write what’s currently bothering you, write down your goals, brainstorm a few ideas etc. When you write your goals down you are 42 percent more likely to achieve them. Writing your goals down not only forces you to get clear on what, exactly, it is that you want to accomplish, but doing so plays a part in motivating you to complete the tasks necessary for your success.

Essential Oils – Aromatherapy essential oils can greatly help relieve stress and anxiety. Oils like Lavender and Sandalwood helps calm nerves and relieves stress while Peppermint oil can help boost energy. Do some research and find what works best for you.

Face mask - You MUST have a face mask in your self-care kit. You just must, I don’t need to tell you the benefits… it’s a face mask!

Herbal Tea Bags – Herbal teas has many benefits. Self-care isn’t only external. Chamomile tea helps relives stress and anxiety while Rosehip tea is great for skin, tissue health and the immune system. It’s about finding what works best and which you like the most.

Candles – Turn the lights off, light a candle, put on a face mask, your favourite movie, and some essential oils. Then sit back and relax. Candles are great for setting a calm mood and ambience.

Favourite DVD's – Have something in your kit that makes you laugh-out-loud. Put your favourite DVD’s etc. Some of us might have moved beyond the DVD days, so make a list on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video with all your favourite shows & movies. Laughing is therapeutic.

Positive Notes – Put a note to read when you’re not feeling 100% ok. Sometimes you need to remind yourself that you’re just going through a rough patch that will eventually past. Be your own support system.

Colouring book – Because it’s fun and it would help take your mind off the daily stresses of life for a brief moment. Give it a try.
